San Juan Therapeutics

Dr. Christine Richards is an orthopedic physical therapist specializing in helping people with complex injury histories and chronic conditions. She prides herself in providing one-on-one, hands-on, individualized care to every patient she meets. After earning her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Vermont in 2017, Christine has dedicated herself to improving her knowledge and skillset. She is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT). She is nearing the end of her post-doctoral Fellowship training in Orthopedic Manual Therapy, with an anticipated graduation date in the fall of 2025.

Dr. Richards began her career as a massage therapist, graduating from Hired Hands School of Massage in Chicago, IL, in 2006. She was Board Certified for over ten years, practicing in Illinois, Alaska, California, and Wyoming. She has always taken a special interest in teaching and mentoring. Nearly 20 years of experience in bodywork, combined with continued education centering on advanced assessment and hands-on techniques, places Christine in a unique position for offering continuing education to physical therapists, massage therapists, and other manual therapy practitioners. Massage is still an integral part of her practice; Christine is passionate about healing through touch and helping other bodyworkers and practitioners reach their potential.

Christine has been an avid practitioner of Yoga and student of yogic philosophy since 2002. She completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand in 2011 and studied under the mentorship of Julie Duff in California for four years. Trained in the Ashtanga lineage and informed by her years of study and application of anatomy and kinesiology, Christine makes every yoga class and workshop unique. Safe movement through the asanas (postures) with individual adjustments and promotion of deep understanding is her focus in every workshop. Yoga is also incorporated into physical therapy sessions when appropriate and aligned with the patient’s goals.

When she’s not working, you can find Christine spending time with her husband Tom and dogs Choyu and Brody out in the beautiful San Juan Mountains!
